Dream 01_201104

Dream of the Month (April 2011)
  1. Title: The Snakes And The Tree
  2. Date of the Dream: 2011 (mailed Thursday, 3 March 2011)
  3. Dream: I saw an old lady and a baby girl, (people I do not know in waking life). In the dream, I felt like an onlooker, as if a movie were playing. The dream played in a room that was part living area, part garden. It was near sunset, turning dark.

There were four snakes: one big one curling up in a small tree, one on the floor, and two other smaller snakes in a bigger sized tree. One snake in the bigger tree kept on trying to bite the baby girl on her leg, but he never did strike her. The old lady also end up under the couch with the snake near her feet, but no one was in immediate danger, or paid attention to the snakes, or seemed bothered by the snakes.

  4. Significant life event: I recieved a car.
  5. Personal concerns/issues: I have a huge money problem at this stage, and I am keeping it to myself not telling others about this.
  6. Associations: Nothing really. I am confused.
  7. Category: None Apply
  8. Pen Name: Bieuwkje Gouws

Dr. Holloway's Comments:

Striking Characteristics: A physical hazard in a dream may represent a difficulty of a different kind in waking life.

Snakes frequent our modern dreams with varying symbolism depending on the context of the dream. These snakes appear to threaten valued aspects of the dreamer’ s life. The old lady and the baby may represent parts of her life that are both old and new. Snakes are difficult to handle, understand, predict and respond to. When snakes appear in dreams representing challenges, the real world problems tend to have those characteristics as well: it is not that they are impossible to solve, but they are awkward and disturbing, making a sensible response more difficult to summon. It is likely that the difficulties can be listed as four separate yet connected threats. On a positive note, however, the dream takes place at sunset. This implies that potent time between rational thought (daytime) and intuitive realization (night time). By bringing together her instinctive strengths and her logical clarity, this dreamer is preparing to handle her difficulties, awkward or not. Overcoming her squeamishness and awkwardness will be key: but she has everything she needs to succeed, including a sense of profound readiness.
