Dream of the Month (February 2010)
Dr. Holloway's Comments:
Striking characteristics: Dreams set in cars often reflect progress or difficulty related to current challenges and goals.
Misadventures in cars often highlight stumbling blocks encountered on the way to the next big thing in our lives. This dream gives the sensation of slipping backwards, going downhill, moving in reverse. Things feel out of control. The dream does not present an emotional crisis; rather the dreamer is mystified as events unfold quickly and unpredictably. When adults dream that their parents are driving, it suggests the dreamer is mastering challenges from early life or family mythology. Even when we “know better” than our family, we still get to push through their boundaries in a visceral way later in life. The waking life challenges are subtler than the dreams, because they take place inside us, and may only be mirrored by silly difficulties or quirky people who block our progress. This dreamer is literally breaking down barriers (fences), which seem to be both in front of, and behind him. While heroic action is taught as the solution to all challenges, this dreamer is discovering, as we all do, that the light of his awakened consciousness will rule the day.
