Dream of the Month (December 2008)
Dr. Holloway's Comments:
Striking Characteristics: This dream falls into the category of what are termed "false awakenings" in which believe we have awakened from a dream, only to find we are still in the dream, and actually awaken later on. The formal sense of dreaming while in the dream state suggests a tangential awareness or lucidity during the dream state.
When a dream contains fascinating phenomena such as this, it is easy to get focused on the type of dream, rather than to examine it for potential meaning. Yet, this dream also seems to have an important theme in its content: That of connecting with friends on a variety of levels. Sleeping on a friendís bed suggests a level of trust in friendship. Buses are sometimes symbolic of communal or community values, or group endeavors. Finally, reconnecting with a childhood friend may represent the rekindling of an old pleasure and sense of camaraderie.
It seems likely that this dreamer was exploring new connections, which somehow resonated on old levels. New friends sometimes fit into openings in the heart created by earlier joys and bonds. We are more tolerant, more spontaneous, or have greater humor because of those earlier connections. Even when old friends have drifted from our path, the richness of those friendships continues to blossom in our current adventures.
