Dream of the Month (September 2006)
Dr. Holloway's Comments:
Striking Characteristics: Vehicles that run amok reflect a sense of pressure, confusion or crisis.
The title of this dream is a doorway to interpretation: something is causing this dreamer to feel she is going over a psychological edge in life. This is not necessarily a negative thing, but anxiety and fear of losing control always arise when situations take us to an edge in ourselves we have not previously visited.
Since bridges are metaphors of transition and connection, it is likely this dreamer is moving from an old life to a new one, and in transit, there is a test of courage or a challenge making the process subjectively tough. She feels as if this is happening without her volition, and does not want to be trapped; yet she also does not want to get in the water (dive into the new life). The dream suggests that her own solid center (represented by the sister on the shore) is there for her. This is a time to be gentle with the ups and downs of your own process, to trust your finer instincts, and to walk gently through your fears. Clarity will be there for you, if you ask for it.
