Dream of the Month (May 2005)
Dr. Holloway's Comments:
Striking Characteristics: Adventures in vehicles may show us handling challenges and reaching toward goals.
This dream is all about choice and the dreamer’s relationship with it. Hummingbirds move so quickly that they appear to be still; it is only when they leave that we grasp the rapidity of their motion. Just so, the driver of the car seems to hesitate and then accelerate to an extent that is like science fiction. It feels as if the dreamer is facing a choice point that is probably manifesting in both a relationship and a work situation. She is processing on many different levels simultaneously, staying on top of variables while embracing surrender on a more philosophical level. She has been taking in the ride, but she also, apparently, possesses a kind of “magic” that is like the hummingbirds. When dreams present a symbol three times, it is rather like the fairy tales of old: the third try does the trick. This pattern occurs in dreams when we have reached a psychic threshold in our readiness to tackle something new, or let go of something old. This dream hints that the dreamer is ready for change, and to exercise her ability to choose what suits her own extraordinary nature.
