Dream of the Month (December 2004)
Dr. Holloway's Comments:
Striking Characteristics: When dreams focus upon the head or the hair, there may be symbolism regarding thoughts and ideas.
Dreams frequently display unusual activities and qualities in our heads and hair. This imagery may highlight changes in our thinking or perspectives, sometimes revealing an extreme or outdated pattern as a surreal hairdo or head condition. This startling image suggests that some style of thinking or approaching things was absorbed from a parent, and later re-evaluated. Although maggots seem unusually creepy, in the dream the mother and kids are matter-of-fact about them in the shower. This suggests that whatever process or thinking they represent, they seemed routine within that environment during that time in life. Maggots seem unsavory in waking thoughts, but they could be viewed more organically to represent someone’s approach to making sense of the past, and assimilating experiences. It would seem the dreamer is finding at least one way in which she feels (and prefers to be) dissimilar from her parent, and is perhaps looking with wonder at where she came from and where she now is.
