Dream of the Month (December 2003)
Dr. Holloway's Comments:
Dream Characteristics: This dream is a version of the classic theme of rediscovering forgotten rooms.
This dream hints at the existence of potentials that have been stored away for some time. The beautiful furnishings may represent aspects of the dreamer such as resources, talents and strengths; available to make life richer, but seldom recognized or considered. The dream also hints that the formula for taking advantage of this reservoir of possibilities involves organization, “clean-up”, and the willingness to face something haunting or unsettling. The work, and the fear prove daunting, and the dreamer chooses to return to her familiar life “in front.” There is no harm in this, but there may be some benefit to exploring the essence of the road not taken, the house not lived in yet. Sometimes we abandon possibilities that seem too extreme, and then forget that we can craft compromises, or combine our talents for richer fulfillment. We should never be afraid to look our “stored” dreams in the eye, and then consider whether in a different, more harmonious form they might still be realized, or at least welcomed into the light of day.
