Dream of the Month (September 2003)
Dr. Holloway's Comments:
Identifying Characteristics: Tornados often represent emotional storms or turbulent situations.
There is a tone of crisis in this dream, because of the sudden storm arising, and the urgent rescue of your brother. Whenever we struggle with challenges in dreams, we have a chance to see our coping style reflected in a dramatic, and sometimes exaggerated way. Your style of action, observation, and completion works very well here. You accomplish the rescue, and things are not quite as dire as they might have been. It would seem that you keep an eye on the future, and you have a workable plan.
This drama may represent a real-life concern about your brother, or he may represent a part of yourself that loves to play and perform, but is less aware of hazards in the real world. In either case, you have an assertive, watchful style that works very well to meet the problem and diffuse it. The rain of jellyfish suggests the feeling of being swamped by something exotic and difficult to pin down. Only you know whether they represent fears that make a certain person in your life seem spineless whenever you suggest a possible solution, or if they are subtle problems that have the potential to bring a potent “sting.” Either way, they aren’t quite as bad as they might have been, and your “damage control” is just what is needed to emerge from the storm safely and quickly.
