Dream of the Month (May 2010)
Dr. Holloway's Comments:
Striking Characteristics: A change in identity in a dream permits a new perspective and freedom from the habituated mind. This beautiful scene is a variation on a theme I call “Treasure at the Shore,” in which the dreamer discovers unforeseen treasure at the place where the water meets the shore. In dream symbolism this region represents the place where imagination and potential (the water) meet the intellect and the well-known life (the shore). When a dream takes place here, it suggests emergence from a time of doubt and journeying, into a place of curiosity about the future. Life requires a bit of surrender to reach this threshold, but in return we feel a new excitement and a dawning realization that a new life stretches ahead. It is likely that the man and woman represent inner aspects of the dreamer: the swimming suggests an emotional harmony and mutual awareness that offers rich promise and stability. For what lies ahead, she will need this inner partnership and mutuality between her very different kinds of strength and gifts.
The discovery of the golden horses suggests creative work ahead; with multiple results. Horses often represent our capacity to work, and the liberation and sacrifice that entails. She has a choice to bring this potential forward and enliven it, or to simply explore it as an exotic portal into other dimensions of herself. However she handles it, this dream discovery is a power and beautiful gift, one that may offer deepened understanding with each successive visit to the inner shore.
