Dream 01_200807

Dream of the Month (July 2008)
  1. Title: Road Kill
  2. Date of the Dream: 2008 (mailed Thursday, 26 June 2008)
  3. Dream: I am driving along a six-lane road and see a woman's body lying in the road. I want to stop and help her, but a car in that lane hits her, spinning her body around, and I see blood flying off her. Suddenly, I realize that there are bodies all over the road. I am the only driver who seems aware of them. I stop the car and get out to try and flag the other drivers, to avoid their running over the bodies. At the same time, I dial 911 on my cell phone and tell them: there are bodies all over the road! The operator asks how many, and I begin to count them out loud by two's. There are at least 20 bodies, but now some of them are slowly getting up and moving around. I hear ambulance sirens approaching and the dream ends.
  4. Significant life event: I read an in-depth article on the Hartford Circus Tent Fire and it disturbed me.
  5. Personal concerns/issues: I have lost contact with my husband who is incarcerated.
  6. Associations: None
  7. Category: Nightmare
  8. Pen Name: Sarah

Dr. Holloway's Comments:

Striking Characteristics: Highways often reflect our current experience with a project or specific life situation. The quality of the journey symbolizes the challenges or ease we're having with the real life situation.

This dream is an emotional gut-punch, and it shows the dreamer pitted against a crisis. She is the heroine; trying to rescue others and prevent further disaster. This hints strongly that this dreamer is wrestling with something that disturbs her on a personal level, yet she's being quite brave and hands-on in the way she's facing things. When people or creatures are mowed down in a dream, this suggests that a dominating force is wielding power at the cost of a more vulnerable energy. This is a situation that has been going on for a while, and is now reaching a point of crisis that is really disturbing her. When we call 911 in a dream, we are saying to ourselves: This is not okay! I've got to do something or address this in a new way. This dreamer is very pro-active, not hesitating to take action, and she makes a good connection with the emergency operator, which suggests she is not personally conflicted, but knows what is right and wrong for her and for the situation. Also, note that the corpses are not dead after all, but are getting up as she calls for help. This suggests that something has been wounded, but is not yet lost. She can still correct things, and will prevail in the real life situation if she listens to her instincts.
