Dream 01_200210

Dream of the Month (October 2002)
  1. Title: Talking Bear

  2. Date of the Dream: 9/2/2002 (mailed Saturday, 07 September 2002)

  3. Dream: I was in a cave lined with brush, there was a bear lying on its side. She was looking at me and telling me not to eat her leg, as she was in labor and giving birth. She told me to nurse instead as she had lots of milk. I was standing and looked down at her teats and thought I could not nurse because she was full of fur. I had a sharp rock in my hand and cut a piece of her flesh and began to eat it. It was cooked and the bear kept saying that now she could not have her cub.

  4. Significant life event: nothing that was out of the ordinary

  5. Personal concerns/issues: general personal concerns (i.e. money, kids, the usual)

  6. Associations: none

  7. Pen Name: lynn

Dr. Holloway's Comments:

Identifying Characteristics: Talking animals often represent an aspect of the dreamer that requires freedom of a special kind.

This dream presents stark imagery with a subdued plot. When dreams present this kind of artistry, it is sometimes an attempt to jar the conscious mind into taking a fresh perspective toward a current situation. The tension in this dream arises between the bear (fighting for her time and energy to create something), and the dreamer, who assumes the bear should be devoured piece by piece. If this is correct, then the bear may represent an energy inside that needs peace, time, privacy and support to accomplish its goal of birthing something into your life. However, itís all too easy to be critical of this energy, to dismiss its needs, and to think of it as trivial or as an eccentricity. Donít make the mistake of thinking that something must be official, well paid, traditional or familiar in order to be worthy. If something is trying to emerge through you, give it the time it needs. It doesnít have to be an either/or proposition. Be practical and make sure your needs are met, but also be patient and believe in magic. When you give the bear-energy permission to work through its birthing, youíll immediately begin to feel nourished by that decision.
