Dream of the Month (July 2001)
  1. Title: Borg Invasion

  2. Date of the Dream: 6/4/2001 (mailed Tuesday, 12 June 2001)

  3. Dream: I am in a space ship helping out with odd things. I am transported to earth only to find myself running from Cyborgs who wish to turn me into a Cyborg. (Automaton-like aliens). They catch me and try to turn me into a Cyborg, but just as I am about to give in to becoming one, I feel human again except that I have a Cyborg body. After a while I find my way home where everyone is preparing to evacuate earth. They are afraid of me until they realize I am not a proper Cyborg. I help them prepare to evacuate. Just before I wake up I ask my dad where we are going. Once he tells me I have a feeling that I have been used by the Cyborgs to find out where they are going.

  4. Significant life event: None really accept that i quit my job about 3 weeks before

  5. Personal concerns/issues: My parents have been nagging me to get a job for a while and i have felt a little guilty about not being able to find one.

  6. Associations: none

  7. Pen Name: D,Diggler

Dr. Holloway's Comments:

Identifying characteristics: Aliens frequently highlight the territory in life from which we feel alienated, or different from others.

This dream dramatizes the subjective discomfort you have probably felt when trying to make yourself fit into a mold that doesn’t suit you. From the outside, everything in life seems to urge you to “join the collective” and become a well-adjusted drone. But internally there is a quite strong feeling of becoming half-alive, or of sacrificing the spark that makes you unique.

Right now you’re struggling with two agendas: the need to find a new position and the secret mission to avoid doing so, these opposing forces are represented by the “Borg” and the human race. But dividing your desires into polar opposites will only keep you trapped in this war zone. Instead, your deeper task is to search for work that will allow your personality and interests to be included and tapped as you work. Don’t accept that you either must become a zombie or be unemployed. If you reject that presumption, and keep an open mind, you will find yourself finding a job that is unlike anything you’ve ever done before which will open doors to your deeper interests and talents.
