Dream 01_200103

Dream of the Month (March 2001)
  1. Title: Amazing Wound

  2. Date of the Dream: 1/14/2001 (mailed Monday, 15 January 2001)

  3. Dream: I dreamed I had a small puncture wound just below my shoulder on the right. From this wound I saw a small whitish colored tag. I pulled that tag and an entire stalk of corn came out. I then saw what appeared to be the bones of a wing and, entangled in the bone structure, was the top portion of the corn tassel, (the part with the little leaves). This was embedded in between the bones.

I pulled the end of the stalk, loosened the tassel, and extracted that from the wing. I thought how unusual it was to have corn embedded into the bones of a wing, and in my own arm. I then saw the stem of a small plant sticking out of my left wrist. I pulled it and out came a small, olive-green, grassy type of plant that had a sickly sweet smell to it. The smell was somewhat unpleasant but for some reason also seemed familiar.

  4. Significant life event: I've taken up a new hobby. Stained glass. Which I have not yet had lessons for and am not very good at. I have interviewed for other possitions but have found that the one I have is not that bad.

  5. Personal concerns/issues: None, that I am aware of.

  6. Associations: Can't figure this one.

  7. Pen Name: Raven

Dr. Holloway's Comments:

Identifying Characteristics: Physical wounds in dreams tend to represent psychological and emotional wounds of varying levels of intensity.

You've recently discovered that some part of life that has been "a pain" for you also contains the seeds for some interesting discoveries. The wound on the right shoulder may represent your work activities, which you had "tagged" in a certain light. If this is so, then you probably underestimated your potential for fulfillment in your present situation, because the ear of corn represents completion, success and a surprise that is "ripe" for you. This dream also implies the reason why the situation aggravated you in the first place: (The bones of the wing represent bone-deep creative and expressive impulses.)

It appears there isn't so much something wrong with your "day job" as there is an imbalance in the way you're expressing the deeper parts of your mind and spirit. Once you're experiencing a regular flow of creativity and self-expression (the green plant in your left wrist), your life will ring true, instead of feeling out of whack.

By marrying practical effort (shouldering what you need to), with outlets for expression, you may well astonish yourself and others by what you accomplish, and by what flows out of you.
