Dream of the Month (August 1998)
Dr. Holloway's Comments:
This dream is a striking example of contemporary symbolism and occupation-specific themes. From the dreamer's thoughtful tone, we can infer she is aware of the obvious association to separation, and it is not a leap of imagination to suppose there may be cubicles or cell-like work spaces in her office. However the dream itself seems to point out an important, and possibly even spiritual paradox. That is, the same structure which "imposes" boundaries of separation also connects her as part of a greater framework. This is much the way mathematics can be used to strip the magic from a subject, or to recognize the patterns and structures in nature. The same process that has served a controlling function for her in the past may now be acting as a source of revelation and insight.
The forces in her personality which seem to insist on boundaries may be working to preserve those boundaries so that she may feel comfortable enough to experience her sense of connectedness! In a similar way, the energy she has put into "excelling" may now be shifting towards a different orientation. She may find parts of life becoming transparent to her, or have a hunger to do the same activities with a different sort of energy or focus. The related dream memory appears to show that multiplicity of potentials, and richness of perception are very much available for her exploration.
